The X Intelligent Construction (XIC) Lab at Texas A&M University is dedicated to advancing the frontiers of construction automation and robotics. Our research focuses on developing embodied intelligence for construction automation, enabling robots to perceive, adapt to, and act within complex and dynamic construction environments. Key areas of investigation include context-aware construction robots that can autonomously adjust to site-specific conditions, multi-robot coordination for efficient and scalable task execution, and human-robot collaborative construction to ensure seamless interaction between humans and robots. We are also pioneering research in robot supervision and improvisatory control, allowing robots to respond flexibly to unexpected challenges, and human-adaptive robotic construction, tailoring robotic behavior to individual worker needs and preferences. Through these efforts, the XIC Lab aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the built environment.
